Today at the opening of the Hong Based CineAsia tradeshow PVR Cinemas, one of the largest and most premium film exhibition companies in India, inked a long-term alliance with Cinionic, the Barco cinema joint venture.
The deal is to elevate the cinematic experience in India as 150 screens at both new and existing PVR properties will be outfitted with Barco’s 2K, 4K laser-phosphor and Flagship RGB Laser projectors within 12 to 18 months.
“Our industry is facing stiffer competition, so we need to offer unique entertainment experiences that are larger than life,” comments Mr. Gautam Dutta, CEO of PVR Cinemas. Who adds: “The Barco cinema projectors deliver the excellent performance and high brightness necessary to power these top-notch movie showings at a very attractive TCO.”
Since its inception in 1997, PVR has redefined the cinema industry and the way people watch movies in India. From its compact cinemas in smaller towns to Gold Class and Director’s Cut deluxe cinema-plus auditoriums. The exhibitor recently added P[XL] ― premium, extra-large screen format powered by India’s first Barco Flagship Laser projector.
Cinionic has 24 different cinema projectors on offer, 18 laser and 6 lamp projectors. This
enables exhibitors to match their projector fleet to a variety of theaters. It also offers laser-as-a-service solutions.
