At CES in Las Vegas Sony is launching its first 8K LCD TVs, the BRAVIA MASTER Series Z9G. It comes in both 98" and 85". They feature the next-generation image processor X1 Ultimate equipped with '8K ultra-resolution algorithm custom database, enabling the 8K X-Reality PRO to up-convert any content to 8K resolution'.
Sony's updated Backlight Master Drive technology features a newly developed LED module and control algorithm optimized for 8K. Sony first provided a technology demo at CES three or four years ago, wowing audiences with its then amazing 2000 nits peak brightness for specular highlights, redirecting light from darker area to the highlighted area. Since major rival Samsung has introduced TVs that claim 4000 nits peak brightness for small parts of the screen. So let's see how far Sony has been able to 'evolve' Backlight Master Drive.
These large LCD TVs feature four speakers located above and below the screen tol make you believe the audio is coming right from the screen, according to Sony achieving a high level of audio quality befitting the immersiveness of large-screen 8K images. Sony branded this Additionally, Acoustic Multi-Audio™.
Sony is also updating its line of OLED TVs, three 4K TVs make up the BRAVIA MASTER Series A9G. As per usual the TV comes in 77", 65", and 55". Sony accentuates its new OLEDs are half the thickness of its predescesors, when wall-mounted.The previous Sony OLEDs tilted backwards so when wall mounted instead of standing on a cabinet or floor, they protruded considerably more than other (OLED) TVs.
No speakers on top or below the screen as the Acoustic Surface transducer Audio+ technology is carried over. "It produces sound from the screen itself harmonizing the image and audio for a cohesive and immersive high-quality surround-sound experience and Center Speaker Mode", according to Sony it is also compatible with Dolby Atmos.
These TVs feature Netflix Calibrated Mode, "which lets you enjoy a wide variety of entertainment from Netflix exactly the way the creators intended". Additionally, these TVs are part of the IMAX Enhanced certification program that is the result of collaboration between Sony's engineers together with IMAX, DTS and content creators to faithfully deliver creators' vision and intent.
