At CES in Las Vegas Sony is launching its first 8K LCD TVs, the BRAVIA MASTER Series Z9G. It comes in both 98" and 85". They feature the next-generation image processor X1 Ultimate equipped with '8K ultra-resolution algorithm custom database, enabling the 8K X-Reality PRO to up-convert any content to 8K resolution'.
Sony's updated Backlight Master Drive technology features a newly developed LED module and control algorithm optimized for 8K. Sony first provided a technology demo at CES three or four years ago, wowing audiences with its then amazing 2000 nits peak brightness for specular highlights, redirecting light from darker area to the highlighted area. Since major rival Samsung has introduced TVs that claim 4000 nits peak brightness for small parts of the screen. So let's see how far Sony has been able to 'evolve' Backlight Master Drive.
