  • Philips launches new OLED and LCD TVs with Dolby Vision and HDR10+

    Last year TPVision the manufacturer of Philips TVs said it would not ad Dolby Vision due to the license fee involved, selecting HDR10+, the license fee free dynamic HDR standard by Samsung, and Panasonic, instead. At CES Panasonic announced the first TV with both Dolby Vision and HDR10+.And now Philips is adding Dolby Vision to its 2019 OLED and LCD TVs, and adding it to the (OLED) TVs it released a few months ago.

    At an event in Amsterdam the company announced two additional OLED TVs that each will be available in 55" and 65". Philips OLED804 en OLED854. Prices are yet to be communicated, but these will sit below the OLED903 with its Bowers & Wilkins soundbar. The 804 and 854 will come without this premium sound bar, but do support Dolby Atmos. Both TVs are speced at 1000 nits peak brightness, and feature Android TV Pie, based on Android 9, as operating system. This offers voice control via the Google Assitant,Alexa support is scheduled to be added later this year. Both TVs have a chrome edge, the 854 has a dark chrome swivel bar stand, while the 804 comes with two slim line feet. They also sport three sided ambilight.

    The third generation of its P5 imageprocessor should have an 20% increase in performance over last years chip. It also ads Dolby Vision support. It now supports HLG, HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, so the only major HDR format missing is Technicolor Advanced HDR, developed by Philips and Technicolor.

    Philips also announced a number of LCD TVs. The 8804 series TVs all feature the Bowers & Wilkins soundbar.

    'The One To Watch' is the PUS7304, an 55" 4K Nanocell LCD TV, with a design by Georg Jensen. Android TV with Google Assistant and Alexa, for €900,-.
