  • Samsung Display teams up with Chinese firms on curved panels

Samsung Display Co. said Wednesday that it has formed an alliance with its sister company Samsung Electronics, and Chinese TV and panel manufacturers to further cooperate on expanding the curved panel industry.

The agreement was made at a forum held by Samsung Display and the Congressional-Executive Commission on China in Beijing on Tuesday, the company said.

China-based TV manufacturers, including market leader Hisense Co., panel makers such as TCL Corp. and Leshi Internet Information & Technology, attended the event, officials said.

The firms agreed to expand mutual cooperation on enlarging the Chinese curved display market with huge growth potential and research and development (R&D) projects.

"Samsung's curved display provides various options to the market with different technology and design," said Han Gab-soo, vice president of Samsung Display.

According to Chinese market tracker CMM, curved TV sales in China are forecast to reach 2.3 million units this year and 4 million next year.

A total of 2 million units of curved monitors are expected to be sold this year on the back of rising popularity of online games, according to the CMM report. (Yonhap)
