  • Samsung Cinema LED Screen in Zürich

It seems that Samsung is installing a LED screen in one of the cinemas here in Zürich.

It should open in January,  so I hope to see it soon.

Indeed, news started to pop-up in English language publications yesterday, looks like Samsung put out a translated release, following the German one put out two or three weeks ago. The images I saw onine show a fairly small room given the investement involved. For Stöckli to make back such a large investment, it must indeed offer an innovative seating lay-out. Love to hear your report. The few people that have been flown in to Seoul for a demo at Lotte World have been positive.

Press release looks to be translated. I haven't searched for this version, so I don't know if Samsung made it public online, but you'll find it at our friends of the daily.

So, it looks like after some delays the LED screen will be in use from the 23rd of March on.

No details yet, but according to the cinema's website (www.arena.ch) it will be Europe's first Cinema LED screen and the World's first 3D Cinema LED screen.

Interesting. I wonder how they are doing 3D, will the glasses be active or non-active.

Active. CinemaLED uses active 3D. They mentioned at ISE that they could adress the aversion of theater operators to active 3d, but no specifics.

Here are some pictures of the theatre, the screen is basically wall to wall.  (Source: https://www.arena.ch/de/sihlcity/kin...nyx-cinema-led)

There is also a pressbook with some more information. https://www.arena.ch/images/sihlcity...emaLED_eng.pdf

I will try to catch a showing of Black Panther this weekend or next week (sadly only in german).

Nice pictures Zack thanks for sharing. You would never know you are looking at a panel. If you are successful, I am sure everyone is looking forward to seeing some pictures of the display in action. Thank you.

Can you ask about the audio.

Where are the screen channels located here?

What are those speakers up front aimed at the screen?

My commentary in general too much sound being aimed at screen, the very opposite my experience with rear projection and Torus screens.

Also it appears these speakers are NOT JBL.

                    Lastly how does it sound?

I was wondering about the audio too, as there do not seem to be any speakers around the screen (there seems to be something underneath it...).
According to the press info, the sound is provided by JBL and Harman:
                      https://www.arena.ch/images/sihlcity...emaLED_eng.pdf
The audio specialists at JBL and HARMAN are supplying the associated immersive sound technology. JBL’s „Sculpted Surround“ system and the innovative speakers create a clear and natural surround sound that is evenly distributed throughout the room.<\q>
Some more pictures of the screen in use can be found at: http://db.pprmediarelations.ch/customer/Projekte/14426
Also a news report in german with video of it in action: http://www.20min.ch/schweiz/zuerich/...Kinos-28607884
The people seemed to have been impressed by picture quality, especially the colors and contrast. Also, the 3D seems to have been very good.

I will report back on the picture an audio quality once I have seen and heard it, hopefully this weekend.

It is my experience categorically from my own home system JBL Synthesis One ( 2nd worldwide in 1993) and in  the Penthouse cinema later that year (third WW) that Horns (compression drivers), no matter how well equalized, because of their endemic slow waterfall plots (as compared to dome and ribbons) are INCOMPATIBLE WITH ANY SOLID SCREENS. A double irritant effect compounded.

Even the Korean Cinema Engineers and owners have reached out to Tom at Alcons for help with less than stellar sound concerns. They even attended this week an event in China to take a listen at Alcons, a company that I brought to the american home cinema scene in 2015. One that I am trying to steer towards nearfield with multidirectional concussive bass like I have managed to get Quested to do.
