  • Samsung introduces less expensive 130" 8K video wall

Not Micro-LED, not LED, but LCD, 4 x 65" 4K LCD panels. Ultra-narrow bezel of 3.7mm, a first according to Samsung, but I believe 3.7 narrow bezel was introduced by Samsung at least half a decade ago, in the non-pre-integrated videowalls. So has the gap stopped narrowing?

Samsung Display Launches World’s First UHD Video Wall Panel
The world’s first UHD (ultra-high definition) Video Wall is now being produced in 65-inch panels with ultra-narrow bezels (UNBs) for digital signage applications.

Its resolution is four times better than currently available FHD video walls
Its industry-leading bezel measures only 3.7 millimeters

November 15, 2018 11:30 AM Eastern Standard Time
SEOUL, South Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Samsung Display Company continues to lead the video wall business with its launch of the most advanced video wall for the signage market. With this latest engineering innovation of UHD 65-inch video wall panels, the new Samsung Display panel is filling an important market gap. The panels, offering a nearly undisturbed viewing canvas coupled with best-in class image quality, provide an unbeatable package of form and function, delivering great value to video wall users.

“Although UHD products for digital signage have been introduced in other segments, SDC’s new UHD displays with their 3.7mm, ultra-narrow bezel are the first in the video wall segment and are expected to transform advertising and information messaging in large format signage,” said Yang Oh-seung, head of LCD marketing at Samsung Display. “Four 65-inch electronic display panels, featuring 8.3 million pixels, will comprise the most impressive 2x2 video wall on the market today,” he added.

One of the key video wall segments to benefit from Samsung Display’s cutting-edge advancement is the 46-inch 3x3 Full HD installation, which now accounts for the largest number of commercial installations.

With this transformation to 2x2 65-inch UHD panels, customers will:

    1. Be able to provide consumers with a greater sense of immersion, while materially improving the uniformity of color and quality of images

    2. Gain significant installation cost savings since only four braces will be required for 65-inch panels, rather than the nine braces for 3x3 set-ups with 46-inch panels

Samsung Display is confident that these innovations, which have been engineered to optimize the benefits for signage providers and consumers, will enhance the value and utility of video walls. In the coming years, Samsung Display expects its new solution to expand the video wall business greatly, given the high demand for such products in the global digital signage market.

Will this do HDR? seems like the qhd 65 they gave me the last Xmas is a better display. 3.7" is for both bezels added together right?

If the specs are comparable to my qhd 65, this could be an ok stop-gap measure for a condo designed around the wall, but not willing to spend the coin until prices.

If it looks just as good as my qhd 65, i would definitely do this just for fun, but alas no HDR.

3.7" is even wider than the Philips Wow 3D multi-display demos over a decade ago;-).

Glasses free 3D, and only the LG version gave me more of a head-ache.

      More like the CRT days:

Personally I liked the LG plasma wall back in the day. It got cancelled due to (buyer's) concern over power usage and the associated bad rap given to Plasma.

So yes these commercial displays have 3,7 milimeter bezels pixel to pixel. Usually one side bezel is larger than the other, the total always adding up the specified

The advantage to this one is a single point of blame, Samsung, not dealing with wall processor, mounting vendor, display vendor, installer, assigning blame to one or all of the others.

I hope the mounting is well designed allowing for z-axis adjustment as even the super high-end, they automatically fall in place, Barco Unisee, 'bezel free', but with airgaps, LCD mounting solution, was shown at ISE last year with panels out of plane.

The NHK 8K demo's using 4 LG W-serie OLED panels, patched together by ASTRO Design, originally had a 12? milimeter aluminium cross in the middle, that detracted, but it was almost four times as wide. I did see a demo by Blackbox, its lower-end video wall processors allow you to skip a given amount of pixels to make it look like the bezels cover the image. Common practise I was told, by this KVM, connectivity, networking technology vendor.

Like I said in the initial post it isn't the latest greatest in ultra narrow bezel, as Samsung is promoting 1.7mm on its website:

However that series is limited to 55" and 1080P panels. Only the new 65" panel is 4K: https://pid.samsungdisplay.com/en/digital-signage/video-wall-display/lti650fn01.

Well it is a commercial display, so it most likely has less sophisticated image processing, trickery, than the high-end TVs. So the question is is is based on the 2017 QLED generation of the improved 2018 generation of QLED LCD panels.

As for HDR, let's check the spec sheet. You are in direct contact with the Samsung Commercial Display Solutions director, so you can always ask, also for the price that doesn't get mentioned anywhere.

      The spec. sheet: https://pid.samsungdisplay.com/en/printpdf/digital-signage/video-wall-display/lti650fn01

700 nits, with 4000:1 contrast ratio and no wide color gamut, 72% NTSC is more or less Rec.709/sRGB. So by the look of it the specs. in the HDR department are less than the current 85Q900R TV. It does have a standard 2 year 24x7 use warranty, 3 year extende warranty though.

The spec. sheet is only for the panel, not for a pre-integrated display, including mounting and wall processor, so it looks like you still need to build a systems from parts. With the dreaded deflection of blame when something goes wrong.

The question is 8K with a narrow cross in the middle, but at 130 inch diagonal, or a singular 8K display at 85" diagonal. Has that TV started shipping in the US, or is it just show-room models? Here I see temporary unavailable notices on webshops. Haven't checked Samsungs own online store.
