Just returned from Infocomm, yes the wall Lux was there pushing the envelope but there are others. The question is do all envelops need to be pushed? One company had amazing looking 2k HDR Widecolor gamut with no pixel visibility, perfect seamless tiling, zero reflectivity and simplicity of integration in prepackaged 16 x 9 kits and incredibly low priced in three sizes 110-165. It looked really good.


It sure has been an eventful 2.5 years since I shifted my focus from projection, there are now 4 high end options on the market for different type venues (lit, partial, variable, unlit), that I have picked out of 40 plus walls on display.

Either you are high end or you are low end, but comparing 9, 10, 150, 400k projectors is quite a fools errand. Somewhere you are compromising!

lg controlled lighting, was shown in shadowbox, again very comfortable, and obviously better calibrated.

When one clicks on the lying Leopard image one can see the panels, particularly at the top right.

Peter when considering other image metrics, how would you rate the fact that the LED industry still struggles to get to Rec. 709 colour?

Seen anything that enhanced the near black performance? I have seen Lang AG demo remapping to take advantage of the 16 bits control, with the video being just 10 bits, but it wasn't geared to the low range.

Today I will let the cat out of the bag. The leopard is the LG panel, which was reportedly chosen by some Infocomm attendees as best in show, according to LG. The Leopard was stunning but you are correct the portrait nature of the panels was noticeable.


While the black velvet shadow box presentation improved the image for batcave aficionados.



If you want absolute zero panel visibility (and zero reflectivity) then there was only one option at the show the one with the value entry 110" that rocked but it is 8k to one, yet a much better image than 99% of projectors, these shinny fascias that the wall, c-led, and LG have all give it an enhanced contrasty look but the side effect is panel visibility.


Still their images are phenomenal but the one vendor I am keeping close to my vest, that I know well from doing a through assessment in their office late 2017, at which time their prices were WALL LIKE, this company has a fantastic diffusive fascia, and you know me i HATE THE WORD DIFFUSIVE for the way they totally destroy projected images, but in this case SHARPNESS and MTF is preserved.


That is why in order to minimize the effect I propose that a new art form be created, WALL SPACE DESIGN considering ROOM Lighting and ambient absorption/reflectivity treatments with signal processing (down shift and zoom) and i might be exploring that option with SONY. The C-LED sitting out in the open proved that their darkened hallway Giant 8k display at the image section below eye level that is where demo had more structure visibility. At eye level and higher it was not noticeable. So NO LETTERBOXING black borders below the screen with CLED in a darkened environment is my recommendation. But C-LED did burst out of the gates day one with very cinematic perceived colorimetry. Color volume could be a double edge sword. Says mr. perception.


Specsmanship by itself for these walls proved at Infocomm 19 to be a dead end street. The Wall Lux is spectacular, but Samsung needs to get off their High Horse and prove that this very hot space heater is CALIBRATABLE. Because I do not watch Kaleidescape on Psychedelic Mushrooms. Then also SONY is willing to play ball, and this other Mystery former Bugatti vendor dropped their prices where they are now at the reach of the average affluent videophile. I CALL THAT A BREAKTHROUGH, that LG should try follow.


Samsung's attitude might be  "anchoring mental manipulation" of us videophiles, they are beginning to rub off on some as a blatant money grab that could BACKFIRE on them, because of the products slight endemic imperfections.

Launching these products to market has opened a whole new can of worms in the quest for ultimate specmanship performance. Psychovisual and ergonomic ambient temperature studies need to be adhered/implemented.

I have always prefered emissive displays. And I have been calling for 2000 nits for at least 15 years, but I am not a big fan of neck breaking pitchmines to begin with.

Heat can be an issue with some walls, others do create it, but manage to vent it all to the back. For home installs not much of an option either, as one doesn't want to loose the square footage.

That carnaval scene looks so famillar I have seen it so many times, is it part of the German HDR demo reel, or is it the same Carnaval scene I saw yers ago in Sony's 4K 56" RGB OLED Demo. It was a one-off demonstration model as it had a yield far below commercial viable levels, basically the size of 4 BVM's its chances of being flawless diminished exponentially.


One of the reasons SMD RGB, Flipchip RGB, or Micro-LED wall modules are build from small circuitboards.
