  • Taming the Tiger -Hushing a Solaria

At Cinemacon the Christie Atmos demo had no porthole, and when the sound system was off you could hear the roar of the mandatory 450cfm inline fan clear across the theater, that worried me as I was helping another forum member with a hush box and in my mind I had the Barco 350-cfm reference. Good thing I went to Cinemacon. In fairness to Christie they got the fan noise issue figured out , WITH LASERS !

Here is where we are at for a Xenon Solaria Hush Box:

We are not only insulating but isolating. Next to check is the access clearance and porthole light-path alignment with screen, try to keep it tight and small for less sound emanation.

Of course it would help if the solaria autocads where not so closely held to the chest by Christie, we are modelling everything!!

Note: I wish manufacturers werent so squirelly about their product specs and requirements after much ado wee finally got autocads and details over a myriad of required air flows quite frankly too numerous to elaborate. We are corresponding with a world expert that went through a lot of crap before settling on 2,000 cfm's for Christie Duos running 24/7 at the Hard rock cafe. We are definetely not doing 1,000 this is not a 24/7 conncern but we must bump up the already overpowering 450 cfm, thought required.

This is also coming to play on future Barcvo Mods which will run hotter on the maximum constriction plates + 6.5kw, fed 60-to 70 amps into 10 hp Drive In Cinema Optimized single phase to 3 phase converters. I would warn anyone getting their feet wet On SHC (SUPERKONTRAST) DCI at home to thread carefully lest they start a fire.

Laser will be a welcome in that aspect but they still "may cut off your arm" trending joke at CINEUROPE.

There is an entirely new narrative falling in our laps, the design from a mechanical standpoint passed the manufacturers gravest concerns regarding fitting the lens after the fact through the porthole. Here I can Brag.  What has left us livid is how different these things ventilate as opposed to the Barco's which are 10 times more hush box friendly. I will reveal an entirely new effort using the world's greatest Christie hushbox expert's general advice and compromising a bit, but it appears we need a bigger box, and a bigger fan.

In our service point discovery conversations we realised or 9 x 13 porthole did not have enough clearance to service lens so... this is a Chrisitie optimized Prometheus Class front servicing hushbox porthole.

This is the solution, the ceiling hatches will be further isolated with limp mass isolation and special negative light  treated  r-19 blu jean pillows/bales with special containment for dust particles as Christie is not a sealed light engine.
