That was the hot ticket in its day, 2000:1 with the iris clamped down, that was considered high contrast. I hope we see the next advancement soon I am getting old
Having spent several weeks with the SRX815 projector I can report that the picture it produces is first class. Outstanding contrast with eye popping colors, great blacks with no speckle just a clean smooth image. It also displays some of the best 3d I have seen when using 3D lens and no ghosting. Left and right images are displayed full time side by side, no triple flash, very easy on the eyes. UHD HDR looks outstanding, very thick rich picture on the screen like an oil painting. This is a very good projector not only for the cinema but also for private screening rooms and because it can hit full P3 on all primaries post production houses should consider this projector.
Good news that it holds up to expectations. One minor point to make is that there is no speckle to be expected, as it concerns a LASER-Phosphor projector. Its three peaks for RGB are therefore not as narrow as with RGB LASER projectors. The light is no longer as coherent as at the LASER, due to the exited phosphor/reflection phase. And speckle patterns are caused by scattering of coherent light.
It was clearly defined and explained back in 1975 by John Christopher Dainty in his introduction to his edited Volume on Laser Speckle and Related Phenomena.
Apparantly the phenomen's study dates back at least to Newton's days, and is also observed in electromagnetic spectrum and particles according to Dainty. Scintillation being first observed in starlight.
