Dirk I still have an 120" Vutec I am unable to use right now, the doors being to small.

    So I some-one is interested.

120" also a Toros ? I think the oversea shipping would kill my budget AND I'm still happy with deeply heavy curved V6 Fabric Screen !

Yup horizontal and vertical parabolic curve. From memory it is 132.5 centimeters wide including the edge, it is 4:3 aspect ratio. My late father and I transported it lying on a trailer behind the VW Transporter. We propped it up with (EPS) foam below the hard shell back.

I am in Holland I thought you were in Germany, but still that is quite a ride.

Here's an old ad by someone from Dublin Ireland:
        https://www.adverts.ie/projector/vut...screen/8389560

It should be in the History of TV section, LOL.

I say it ones and twice I really like the Toros Peter, I hope I can see one of them in "person" sometime

If you make your way to Miami, ill be happy to show you.

We got a testimonial from Miami's most influential citizen:

“ In a few years Peter, CINERAMAX has made a quantum leap to the front of the Large Screen Imaging vanguard, colors previously unseen, 70mm like depth, black levels, and sharpness. Life-size HDR with a twist re-imagining of aspect ratio manipulation that leaves you simply saying: STUNNING.
He has BRILLIANTLY exceeded expectations this time, having done things the way I would have liked them done had I presciently foreseen the new intriguing, highly nuanced visual disciplines composing this Tour-de-force. I can highly recommend him to any of my friends that want the best performance value ratio from their Home Cinema or condominium Wall-Screen Lounge. None better!” - Ugo Colombo.

Congrats Peter ! I have a question since I probably missed it, what is the ND filter for ?

What any ND filter is for, reducing the amount of light entering or in this case exiting the lens.

I get that but doesn't the projector have light output settings ? Is the lowest setting still too much ? Oh yea ,and did you misplace your copy of Dale Carnegie ?

Actually it was discussed a bit more extensively in the Eclipse thread. See here: http://dci-forum.com/d-cinema-hi-end...sg6515#msg6515. Indeed it was still too bright for the owner.

<\q> Yes it is too efficient at 15k lumens. Too much light on the 1.3 gain Torus. How to win friends and influence people. Not forgotten.

The lowest dim setting is 30%.

Look I am very excited for the Eclipse having just seen the Lumis Duo with the latest updates to the Lumagen. There is something very exciting about seeing true hdr.

The Eclipse will not have the micro shortcomings that the SIM2 has, namely slight UHP green color bleed on highlights, nor the lack of rec2020 color, the BARCO rec2020 color is absolutely insane, plus they kept their HOUSE BARCO PAPER WHITES, creating an exuberant yet soothing greyscale.  Add the ND filter and the colors take a 70mm depth and richness. So there are subtle tweaks contributed by the filter.

There are more ways to skin a cat, it shows.

The ND Filter took the image a long way towards looking like CRT with HDR, I expect the next light robbing filter will get pretty darn close. And the MTF will increase when only the 1/4" filters become the porthole, instead of the existing 3/8" plus the filters 1/4.

I still find that Enhanced Dynamic Range offers a valid videophile image reminiscent of  70mm, in sharpness MTF and Black levels. I have the Imax 70mm here as a reference, due to the extreme lens, aperture, the Torus screen that mysteriously appears to defy physics, in terms of minimizing black level kickback washout, coupled with these ND filters.

This approach is more BABY BOOMER RETINA FRIENDLY, I find the extreme 16 F-stop projector more for MILLENNIAL. That is what the feed backs I have been given from several baby boomers on both technology applications. Still I can't wait to see your Eclipse, you have my blessing.Bring checkbook to Christie demo. Lol!

So Peter you will not be attending the California demo?

Most camera's do not offer 16 F-stops, but somewhere in the 11-15 area. And then there is post, so i wouldn't worry about too large an dynamic range in commercially available productions.

My impressions on what too much hdr is is based on a series of reference kaleidescape scenes, and the dynamic tone mapping delta between the max cll and min cll and total nits settings. Comparing Oled, led, Brads SIM2 Duo, and the prometheus experimental super-EDR work in progress.

Dynamic tone mapping presetting is better done using kaleidescape scripts that highlight different strong points of HDR content. No single calibration can be effectively done using just a few disks. This of course throws a monkey wrench into the standard ISF calibration process.

That is why I love RGB 3p cinema projector calibrations, easy and extremely accurate (12 bit), assuming you have a color spectrum-radiometer that has 2nm resolution.

Tom Bert the projector vice president for series 4 explained to me that the new alchemy-x communicated to the lasers not only for high frame rate but also possible to dynamically dim. If this feature were to be enabled for HDR content, then it would be a game changer. Perhaps it will.

The downside of cinema calibration with laser is that the result typically specially if you use diffusion screens (all woven) is that the image may look under-saturated, that was the unexpected bonus received by adding the ND filter, it darkens the blacks but brings out a glorious color pallete.

Yesterday we commissioned the Active 3-D  shooting the colors through the glasses, the resulting color was deeply saturated, so we touched it up on the Oppo and with the Darbee set at 70 on the Lumagen we got a tremendously bright and artifact free 3-D. The active 3-D on this projector via lumagen hdmi is the very best active 3-D ever, even better than with Led Walls as being triple flashed it is very comfortable.

That been said we have fulfilled our contract in this project. The new 3 stop neutral density filter comes tomorrow and we have machined a special porthole where the only glass is the 1/4 inch high mtf dual reversible filters from Schneider and Arri.

The movie Midway looked very nice albeit our very dirty current port-glass that has adhesive from the photo tape new porthole prototyping.

Next week we will test the new Arri filter porthole.

I must say one thing about the color file that came with this projector.

IT IS FREAKING AWESOME. How they managed to get the Barco House White of all the Belgian made Barcos still befuddles me, due to the narrow wavelengths. That is one visual characteristic that is very valuable. Not speaking about the eclipse, but the small factor 3P cinema Christie has bluish and green tones to it on whitefield, consistent with christie xenon, NEC is a joke as color balance is always changing as you increase and decrease the lasers.

When compared with a highly regarded 2 nanometer spectrumradiometer. The native MGCD file that came with this projector is crisper and the colors look more native, vs the 2nm calbrated colors which look generally softer but also less pure with some of the colors mixed in. Electroptically the original file has more MTF, go figure that a color calibration file can affect MTF but it does in TROVES. In the past the Pr-655 was also crisper than the minolta calibration on xenon projectors.

You still need to go through the motion of measuring the colors in order to be saving macros but thankfully recalling the original file (is a night and day difference) and then it was ok to save the macros even though using the file triggering an exception at first.

Barco should take this unnecessary fail safe step out ( that would have screwed the image) and just let people enjoy the color file from Barco Belgium production. Here dated September 9 2019.
