So we got the arri ND panavision camera filter 1.2, self congratulation (sarcasm) I now made this projector dark enough so that the lumagen is acting in it's comfort range. The settings are now all close to zero.

We went from Super EDR to EDR light. That is the trade off, but I have a double filter rotating porthole so not despair.

What is the difference of a projection ND filter and a Camera Filter.

On camera filter the heavy anti-reflection coating is on the front where the etched lettering is.

On Projection Filter the anti-reflection filter is in the Back opposite the lettering.

Art is going to come here and shoot me with both barrels for this wanton squandering of precious light.

Here is the double porthole mock-up, a unit is being machined. It will be covered by many layers of NEXTEL satellite optics coating. Blacker than black suede paint.

It looks like CRT a lot, very nice images, and once i remove the portglass with the new double filter frame, the MTF will be superb as the filters are thin. A Very quiet projector helps.

We have a fitting session tomorrow.

The Middle image shows magnets holding the tool hex wrench necessary for filter removal. Nice touch.

We did the fitting. Both portlets were a little bit off on right border. He will fix today, and have it painted flat black by Friday.

            Very well engineered,

Both Filters have their own tray, there is a space to put your fingers in. a separate sealed metal pressure plate holds the filters sealed in place.

I am a little bit confused as to why there are two portholes with a solid piece between them. This is a single lens unit? Is the lens moved horizontally to one or the other port holes?

Jut checked online the old DP 1500 projector had the lens off-center to the left, while the new Series 4 SP15K, has the lens to the right.

The reason for this is that the 100 year old house was not squared, and originally we had to shoot from the side off center by 5 inches. This time around I forced the shift and now there are no issues, image is perfectly squared center. Even though the lens is now as far left as possible.

The purpose of the dual windows is to rotate the porthole to compare filters. I prefer the 1.5 stop reduction Schneider, the client predictably appears to be liking the 3 stop arri. In this particular installation we were able to fit 2 side by side filters and then flip the porthole to lign up with the projection axis.

Another extended negotiation on how to label the lumagen memories a,b,c,d. This is really a delta between Maxcll and min cll, it increases progressively, he wanted it named CONTRAST, which technically it is not.
