  • LG also updating Flagship 77" OLED, includes HDR, wins CES Award

Wrapped up among the news about its Washing Machines, and Mobile Phones winning an innovation award from the CTA, lies the announcement that LG will also update its OLED TV line up with a second generation 4K 77" OLED. It has been awarded the 2016 CES "Best of Innovations" prize for video displays. It will be HDR capable, most likely in the LG OLED variety seen in the previously announced 55 and 65 inch version, so with deep blacks but limited peak brightness. But no further details are included not even if there will be a flat version.

LG's prolific OLED TV lineup has elevated the technology into an entirely new category of television. Winning the 2016 CES "Best of Innovations" for video displays, LG's 2016 77-inch 4K OLED TV was singled out by the award judges as an outstanding feat of modern engineering and design. In addition to its cutting-edge design aesthetic, LG's revolutionary OLED display technology features premium HDR performance and delivers truly exceptional picture quality, with perfect blacks and incredible color, even at wide viewing angles. LG OLED TVs' perfect blacks contribute to an infinite contrast ratio – 200 times deeper than that of an LCD panel – and bring colors to life like never before. Rounding out LG's CES Innovation Award-winning home entertainment products are new advanced projector, UltraWide™ monitor, and premium lightweight laptop products, building on the success of earlier models.

Sponsored by CTA and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America, the CES Innovation Awards highlight product advancements in technology design and engineering. CES Innovation Awards are selected annually by a panel of prominent industry designers, engineers and journalists who judge product entries on a variety of criteria including user value, aesthetics, innovative design, quality and contributions to quality of life.

The flexible 77" received a 2014 Innovation award, it received a model number for the 2015 show, so you are expecting shipping from CES 2016. Could be, but let's see wat LG has to say to that. I retrieved the full release and asked the listed contact, Albert Lee, when how much and flat or not.

There is nothing to wait and see for the award for 2016 clearly states THAT model number. So yes they will ship with the first UHD BD's it seems. List price seems around 32 grand, hey bit cheaper than a 6p barco.

          http://www.cesweb.org/Events-Programs/Innovation/InnovationAwards/2015/Video-Displays/LG-Flexible-CURVED-Ultra-HD-4K-OLED-TV-(77EG9900).aspx<\q>

So it won in 2014, 2015 (nope the 55/65"), and 2016, CES announced http://www.cesweb.org/News/Press-Releases/CES-Press-Release.aspx?NodeID=44e799fa-e7b7-4c31-91d3-e0ecc7a0797d a small selection of honorees, those are also profiled on the website, but the more information at http://www.cesweb.org/Events-Programs/Innovation is missing.

The LG press release does not mention a model number. CES doesn't even mention this award. The website even shows an 110"curved TCL picture. And the 9900 was showing at the show last January.

Great way to creat buzz . Not sure if I would care reporting about stuff if people can't even be bothered to even indicate if it is a technology demo (like the 2014 award win), or a product;-).

BTW, the first local webshops have the Euro version LG 77EG990V listed for €30K.
