Barco Thor 4K 6P Residential Laser Projector the best in the World?
WOW the best Version I have seen in my live. Beside some minor 2D to 3D bugs I report already I not see any more big bugs. I have ask my Family if they saw something but no one saw any bug So we all enjoy the movie a lot even if we saw this movie many times.
3D Version was as I post very bright and show a very nice compare to all other versions more detailed picture with better color less noise and yes first time 3D.
This will be likely my new Screen build from the V6 XXL Screen Material.
I found some very interesting things about this screen material but this is so hot that I can not talk about it since I figure out if what cause what I found. This can take some time.
I still have hope I have this Screen install till Christmas "this year"
I just screened Valerian, the PQ is outstanding with plenty of neon colors. A perfect title to show off the wide color gamut of an RGB laser projector.
Im sorry, yes it was the UHD version. This movie reminds me of "The Fifth Element" just as the soundtrack of Lucy brought back memories of "The Fifth Element"...I wonder why
I check Valerian UHD Disc 2D and 3D BD today and shot some high resolution 4K Pictures. All of them are real Screenshots from the Screen with a 50MP Canon Full Frame Camera in 8K down covert to 4K for posting.
I read many times in IMDb under "See full technical specs" that the Cinematographic Process was 2K and I wonder many times why when I compare BD 2D or 3D Version to a UHD the UHD show more details like Valerian and many other movies. I doubt since long time that it was always the right info there. Anyway watch the picture in full 4K and see for yourself.
What was also nice that even the computer animated Parts show more details see the closeup.
You can really see the difference between the UHD and BD in your last two pictures when watching full screen. The colors are also very nice in this movie. Eye candy if you have an RGB laser projector like the Barco Thor
A nice interesting movie as you say with a very colorful picture. The 3D BD was a good quality 3D BD and looks nice.
Direct after the 3D BD version I watch with my kids some may 10 min. from the UHD Version. Well the color was visible much better resolution was better with a lot more texture and HDR on top hard to say witch version is the better one when watching it with the Barco Thor. My guess is that most Projectors that have a much dimmer far less good 3D Picture than the Barco Thor it is likely better way to watch the 4K UHD Version.
I had not good feelings that I push Barco hard to make just for me a Software that allows me to playback my 4K3D slides I do since over 10 years and when Barco was ready with this Software it take more than a half year to finally use this function the first time.
So today finally my IT Technician and me installed the new 4K 3D Computer that make it possible to playback in a very easy way this 4K 3D images from a normally inexpensive computer. It was a bit tricky to do it and we need help from Brainsalt Media in Austria but after 8 hours it works with not any problem at all. Barco make a perfect job! It is now so easy to feed with just a standard computer with a cheap Graphic Card 4K3D Images to the Barco Thor. Select the right Macro at the Barco and start the slide show at the computer and enjoy the 4K3D pictures! Normally you need a very specially and very expensive Equipment that was very difficult to operate now not anymore. The Barco Thor show a picture quality that was hard to believe it is simply overwhelming . As this pictures contain other than many movies the real full 4K resolution at 4096 x 2160 you see a lot of fine details you normally not see. Some of the newer 3D Pictures I shot in 8K! and down covert it to 4K. This as most of us know further enhance the 4K picture quality.
Good also to see that the Barco Thor are not the bottleneck in the system the source material is the bottleneck!
As I say it was a “early Christmas” for me today I am very very happy.
Today I got the almost last update for my Crestron System that drive the whole cinema and much more.
Now I can select all sources via the the hot keys on the display see picture. Only a Matrix Switcher is missing as both HDMI Inputs from the Barco Alchemy + Input was blocked already with other sources. But my 4K 3D computer need per eye one HDMI Input at the Barco. As I not like to disconnect both HDMI cables and connenct it after I finish the 4K 3D Computer Slide Show I need such a system that can be controlled with the Crestron System and the hot keys as well.
So Wolfgang what are your criteria in selecting an HDMI 2.0a/b matrix? Have you identified any candidates yet? I know Peter ran into trouble, or just less concerning issues with all of the first/second generation HDMI 2.0 switchers/matrices. Mostly EDID issues, but we are at least another year down the road, so what could/would work. The HDFury products allow for forcing displays in HDR mode, so that might be an option for just switching two HDMI sources to one display. But not sufficient if one has to have two or more outputs, or more inputs.
You are right the guy install my Crestron System told me already that it will be difficult to find a switcher/matrix that can support all the inputs signals. Worst is the Billy Linn Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk movie with 3840x2160 at 60P HDR and Rec. 2020 color. If the matrix can handle this I am fine. Computer 4K 3D is just 2 times 3840x2160 24P SDR Rec. 709. My guess the big names have one but this will be not cheap.
